Hanover, Va. – On July 7, 2015, at approximately 10:18 a.m. the Hanover Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal accident involving two vehicles in the area of West Patrick Henry Road (Rt. 54) and Scotchtown Road.
The driver of the blue Jetta, identified as Brenda Garnica Arellano, a 19-year-old female of Glen Allen, VA, was transported by Medflight to MCV Hospital with life-threatening injuries. On July 8, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The driver and the passenger of the gray Jeep Cherokee were transported to Memorial Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the gray 2008 Jeep Cherokee was traveling west on West Patrick Henry Road and the blue 2002 Volkswagen Jetta, occupied by Brenda Garnica Arellano, was heading north on Scotchtown Road. The vehicles entered the intersection at the same time, resulting in a collision. A citizen notified emergency responders.
Investigators are still collecting information in order to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic accident.
