Hanover, VA – The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office holds all military veterans and first responders in high regard. With that in mind, the Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce a new program that does just that.
The Sheriff’s Office currently responds to all deaths in the county. If we are able to determine from a family member on scene that the decedent is a military veteran or retired first responder, deputies, if it is safe to do so, will then honor the decedent by draping them in the American flag.
We feel this is a small, but appropriate, way to honor military veterans and retired first responders.
“The Sheriff’s Office holds all military veterans and retired first responders in high regard. It is only fitting that we honor them and their families during their passing. We are proud to offer this service to our community and grateful to Woodmen Life for their generous donation of the American flags that makes this possible,” said Colonel David R. Hines, Sheriff.
