Hanover County - On Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at approximately 2:12 pm, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle crash on West Patrick Henry Road, east of Tower Road. The preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup travelling west, crossed the solid lines and collided head on with a sedan travelling east. The driver and front passenger of the sedan were pronounced deceased at the scene. Two additional occupants of the sedan and the driver of the truck were transported to area hospitals. Pending notification to the families, identities of those involved will be withheld. Investigators are still collecting information to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic incident. It was earlier reported that the truck “crossed the solid lines and collided head on with a sedan travelling east”. The truck crossed the dotted line and went in to the opposing travel lane and collided with the sedan travelling east.
Upon his release from the hospital today, the driver of the pick-up truck, Ernest Johnston, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (18.2-266). He is being held, no bond, at Pamunkey Regional Jail. Additional charges are pending.
