8/10/2020 Update to Fatal MVC:
The decedent involved in the incident has been identified as Jonathan Rios Perez, 23 years old, of North Chesterfield, VA.
The driver of the Jeep Wrangler who fled the scene has been identified as Herber Ontoniel Luna- Contreras, 31 years old, also of North Chesterfield.
Luna-Contreras is described as 5’ 7”, 190-200 lbs. He is known to color his hair black. He also goes by the alias, “Jesus Perez.” The Sheriff’s Office has obtained an arrest warrant for Felony Hit & Run (46.2-894) with additional charges pending the outcome of the investigation.

On August 8, 2020 at 10:15am, deputies responded to a three vehicle crash in the 14000 block of West Patrick Henry Road (Rt. 54) near the intersection of King Road. Prior to the crash, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Jeep Wrangler driving west on recklessly on Rt. 54. As deputies were responding to the area to locate the vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler sideswiped a Jeep Cherokee (one occupant, no injuries) and struck a Subaru SUV head-on. The Jeep Cherokee and Subaru were both travelling east (opposite direction of Jeep Wrangler). Post impact, the Subaru caught fire. The driver and sole occupant of the Subaru is a white male in his 50’s and was transported by EMS to a local hospital. The front passenger of the Jeep Wrangler is a Hispanic male in his 20’s and was also transported by EMS to a local hospital. The rear passenger of the Jeep Wrangler was found deceased at the scene. The decedent is a Hispanic male in his 20’s. Identification of the decedent is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler left the scene of the crash on foot. He is described as a Hispanic male, wearing a black shirt with no sleeves, medium build, black hair (medium length), facial hair, 5’ 6” to 5’ 8”. If someone matching the description of driver is observed in the area or if further information about the incident can be provided, please contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately. The Traffic Safety Unit is currently investigating the crash and deputies remain in the are searching for the driver.
