Hanover, VA- Out of an abundance of caution in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, the date for National Night Out 2020 was changed from the customary August date to Tuesday, October 6, 2020.
National Night Out is an annual event designed to strengthen our communities by encouraging neighborhoods to engage in stronger relationships with each other and with their local law enforcement partners. In 2019, our National Night Out event was ranked 10th in the nation and 1st in Virginia out of communities of similar size. The goal is to heighten crime prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs, get to know your neighbors and most importantly, through strong partnerships, continue to keep Hanover County a place where crime cannot flourish.
While National Night Out may look a little different this year, we are continuing to work diligently to build and maintain strong community connections in a safe and healthy manner. As we continue to monitor the COVID-19 environment, we have decided to proceed with NNO by hosting four mini-parades throughout several neighborhoods. We know we cannot reach everyone during the evening, but we are strongly encouraging all of our neighborhoods to show support promoting strong communities and participate in safe social distancing by turning on their lights, decorating their yards or putting up signs during the evening.
The parades will pass through selected neighborhoods, staying strictly on the main roads to allow for all of the vehicles in the parade to safely pass through. The parades will pass through the neighborhoods listed below between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. We would love to see everyone come out and wave hello as we drive by.
