HANOVER, Va. – The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office anticipates traffic congestion in the Mechanicsville area during the NASCAR races to be held this week at the Richmond International Raceway in Henrico County. Citizens are encouraged to plan in advance to avoid traffic congestion that will be caused by this event.
On Thursday, September 10, the UNOH 100 K&N Pro Series East Race will be held at 6:40 p.m., which will affect the afternoon rush hour commute.
On Friday, September 11, the Virginia529 College Savings 250 XFINITY Series Race will be held at 7:30 p.m., which will affect the afternoon rush hour commute.
On Saturday, September 12, the Federated Auto Parts 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race will start at 7:30 p.m. Traffic will be congested on Meadowbridge Road all day, with the most congestion occurring mid-morning and late evening (before and after the race).
For citizens traveling on I-295, the Route 301 (Chamberlayne Road) or the Route 360 (Mechanicsville Turnpike) exits are recommended as alternatives to the Meadowbridge Road exit. In addition, citizens are encouraged to avoid Atlee Road, especially on Saturday, and utilize Shady Grove Road as an alternative.
On Saturday, deputies will monitor Meadowbridge Road closely and assist with traffic direction when needed.
It is the goal of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office to facilitate the safe flow of traffic for this special event in such a way that causes minimal inconvenience to our citizens.
