Death Investigation
Hanover, Va. – On Monday, May 2, 2022, at approximately 6:09 p.m., deputies responded to the Montpelier Shoppes in the 16000 block of Mountain Road for a report of an adult male lying unconscious on the ground next to a vehicle.
Once on scene, deputies located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The gun was located next to the body. Lifesaving measures were attempted but were ultimately unsuccessful.
The adult male has been identified as John Slaw, 81, of Montpelier.
Investigators continue to look into the moments leading up to this incident and are currently not seeking any suspects in this case. We continue to work with the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause of death.
